He holds a tall gold halberd set with a red gem, with navy-and-gold striped legs and black boots on a red-and-gold striped drum base.

A little collector's folklore: the halberd was carried by palace guards for centuries, and the Swiss Guard of the Vatican still carries one today. Collectors say a halberdier at the door means no uninvited guest — or mouse — will get past on Christmas Eve.

Why this nutcracker: if you want a traditional nutcracker with richer detail than the usual red soldier, the checkered tunic and gold halberd give him a regal, collectible look. At 15 inches he makes a proper statement on a mantel, piano or entry table, and he pairs beautifully with the rest of his regiment.

In the box: one Halberdier nutcracker in painted wood with a white faux-fur beard and a gem accent on the halberd, packed in a red gift box with a window. A decorative nutcracker, not intended for cracking nuts. Ready to display, no assembly needed.

Line him up with the musketeer (F07M14-36-N01845B), the checkerboard king (F07M14-36-N01845C) and the drummer (F07M14-36-N01845D) for a full guard, or stand him beside the tree with red and green ornaments. Dust with a soft, dry brush and keep away from moisture and heat. A decoration, not a toy.

Size: 38 cm tall (15 in). Classic Christmas mantel and entry decor, and a handsome gift for nutcracker collectors and history lovers.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0721/0047/9059/files/F07M14-36-N01845A_95ddad4b-fed6-43d3-bdd3-78515069a0bc.jpg?v=1792776923
https://partysupplyusa.com/products/halberdier-with-gold-halberd-christmas-wooden-nutcracker-15-in-by-wizardi-f07m14-36-n01845a
